Sorry for the Crickets

Posted on: Saturday, October 22, 2011

I have been very absent. My blog hasn't even been a tab on Chrome all week (yet a link to a motorcycle in Austin has been up for days...). I guess everyone needs a break sometime, and this post isn't to definitively say that this unplanned break is over, but it is Saturday and I owe you some cat pictures.

And really how am I to blog when that is going on? There has also been skyping with husband until past my bedtime. It's been a really good and busy week actually. I have some posts and topics in the works, so hopefully soon I will be able to get things going again.

Cuddle

Posted on: Monday, October 17, 2011

I am lucky that these two little cats are kind of obsessed with me and love to be close. All that is missing from this cuddle action is husband. I think that by writing "all that is missing" it makes it sound like he is only a little part missing, but actually my heart aches a bit and I just don't want to be too sad. Husband has been making me feel especially loved lately. Side effects include increased feelings of longing and missing him. At work this week the topic for the kids is "grief." I would never have put that word to what I've experienced since Kyle left Pitt, then left for basic, then left for Iraq, until my coworker used me and our situation (with permission) as an example for the kids. But it makes sense, because when asked how I cope or react to grief I kept thinking about how I've never cried so much in my life. That must be because I'd never experienced real grief before. Huh. It was a lesson for me as well today.

A Day Off

Posted on: Sunday, October 16, 2011

This is a peek what my sick day (and a half) off looked like:

Not pictured:
- looked up possible places to live in Texas depending on where I could possibly go to school (Temple, Georgetown, or Middle of Nowhere I think are the options. hah, two of those are names of towns, but also names of schools, but not ones in Texas I can go to. amusing! )
- caught up on Dexter and Happy Endings
- chat with husband
- play with kittens
- several sneeze attacks
- played with more pictures of Kyle. because well he is adorable.

I hope everyone had a nice day off as well. I'm feeling a bit better, not as much in pain as yesterday, just the usual cold irritations. Ready for another week to speed by and bring me one week closer to my husband!

Sarah is Sick

Posted on: Friday, October 14, 2011

Yesterday afternoon at work I started sneezing and feeling a bit off. I thought I had a tension headache making my neck sore and painful, but as the day progressed I knew I was getting sick. Good news is I skipped the three or four days of a sore throat leading up to the cold and went straight to the heavy head, not-really-very-runny-but-you-think-it-is nose, and chills in your bones part of being sick. This leads me to believe it will be a short sickness, perhaps mostly over with by about Monday (fingers crossed and with some help from below). I kind of enjoy the chills actually.

It was kind of a weird day. To start last night I am fairly certain I saw the clock at every hour between when I went to bed around 11 and when I got out of bed at 5, so not much sleeping. Then my coworker didn't show up for the morning shift at the Arc (there are two of us every morning), so I had to get all the residents ready, showered, fed, medicated and transported myself. There was a bit of panic at first, but it actually went quite well, and we were only a little later than usual. I felt pretty good about it. pretty good indeed.

I got some medicine afterwards and headed back to the apartment for my few hours of a break in between jobs. I did not workout as I usually would during this time, but I got some organizing done and caught up on some hulu. I also got to chat with Kyle a little bit as his internet was going in and out. I love that man. We're gonna get matching shoes and everyone will be jealous. ok maybe it won't be our first pair of matching shoes...

Time for job number two at 1pm. It was a good time. I usually drive about three and a half hours total every day picking kids up and dropping them off (they live as far away as possible and in completely opposite directions. I pass on average two Amish buggies a night), but it was a little shorter today. Also, sometimes this job just makes me want to tear up from, well sometimes from sadness for the kids, but more often from happiness and overwhelming appreciation to be working with both the kids and my coworkers. I was in a really pleasant mood actually, so much so that one of the kiddos exclaimed, "Miss Sarah, you're silly!" I made tacos for dinner for everyone and had to brave some PSU Homecoming traffic taking the kids home, but now I am back to my kittens and I am going to eat an apple. and think about when some day in the future I will write about "the kiddos" I will actually be talking about our own...hmm.

the kids and I all thought the sky was pretty neat tonight

I work Saturday 6:30 to 3pm, but I have a rare day off on Sunday. I will probably still be sick, but a good sick day can be kinda nice and a good reason to just stay in blankets watching movies, and catching up on my blogging. :) and probably eight other things too.

Have a great weekend!

Stopping by to Say Hi

Posted on: Thursday, October 13, 2011

Hi blog,
Sorry I have been a bit inattentive lately. I think it is because of busy times and husband was on skype for the last two nights after work and for some reason everything in life screeches to a halt when that happens and I can no longer multitask. I completely forgot about Wednesday Wedding yesterday. I have a couple big wedding things to take care of this morning (rental company and catering), then things will calm down a little bit. The eight month mark is coming up on Saturday, so I will have a new To Do list to share, as well as a Done list, because when I think about it a lot has been getting done, kinda sorta, and that is important to remember as well.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far for Kyle's new computer! It makes me very happy. I will try to see how much we've received so far and make one of those thermometers to share. But for now enjoy this series of tiny Skype photos I like to call "Kyle eats an MRE pound cake."

How To Donate

Posted on: Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Brandon set up a payment system through Visa Person-to-Person QuickPay, which should be just about ready to go (delay due to the holiday). It is secure, carries no service charges and does not require you to create an account.
..........................
What to do:

1. Email Brandon Curtis at brandon.curtis@gmail.com with your name and how much you would like to donate. Or email me at sarah.f.mcpherson@gmail.com with your name and how much you would like to donate and I will forward it to Brandon.

2. You will receive a payment request from Visa via email, where you can make a direct electronic transfer to Brandon.
..........................

Brandon has ordered the computer already and it is on the way to Iraq. The computer plus extra RAM came to $423, and Brandon is also assembling a set of DVDs of software, operating systems, and other utilities. If you have recommendations you can add them here. If we receive more money than needed to cover the computer, then we will just have to buy Kyle some more awesome things!

Please let me know if you have questions. I will keep everyone updated on how much we've collected once specific donations start coming in!

Thank you!
Sarah

Dress Alert

Posted on: Sunday, October 9, 2011

Everyone, I found a dress! It was actually not too difficult and actually fun and also very good for my self esteem; what do you know! Of course I can't post a picture of it, so here is one of Christy trying on a feather (stripper?) shoe.

More pictures and details from the weekend to come later! Today we are going to the Waffle Shop and then to David's Bridal in Altoona to look at bridesmaids dresses!
