Coffee Candle

Posted on: Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Or: What to do When Your Cats Destroy Everything. My cats have a thing for coffee. I don't know why, I don't know what it is, but they are really drawn to the stuff in beverage form. So, when I brought home some nice Baylor coffee to give out as gifts, the cats promptly found them and got them out of the shopping bag, and chewed them up. Apparently they just love anything coffee. Since I couldn't give the coffee out as a gift, and since this Texas Pecan is the most delicious smelling coffee, I made a simple Pinterest find. Stick a vanilla candle in coffee in a jar or glass, and voila. It really smells wonderful. I suppose you could also grind and drink the coffee, or repackage it, but I personally am not a big coffee drinker, so just being able to smell it is the best option. I put it in a large mason jar with a lid, so when not in use I could close it up, to prevent further cat destruction. *Make while catching up on How I Met Your Mother

Sorry

Posted on: Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I'm not sorry. Aside from this being an insane $69 and the teeny little hiccup of a fact that I have no children, neither in the works nor out of womb, I want this so bad for future kiddo.
Ah well. When the time comes I'm sure I can make my own awkward cat sweatshirt. What is Pinterest for, after all?

Necklace Display

Posted on: Saturday, September 15, 2012

It seems lately I've taken a little bit of a liking to necklaces, and I randomly decided this afternoon that I needed to keep them better organized and easily accessible. I scanned my Pinterest boards to see if there was something quick and easy I could do without having to buy any supplies, but I didn't find anything. I glanced back into my room and saw this mirror that I got some years ago, but don't really use now. I looked in one of my craft supply drawers and saw some of those Command hooks that we got a while ago, but anything we hung on the wall with them ended up crashing to the ground, usually in the middle night after only a couple weeks of hanging. Instead of just putting the hooks on the wall, I thought it would be a cooler display to hang them on the mirror, and I was right! I think it's a pretty neat solution, and you can always add more hooks when needed. I like that this mirror (from IKEA) has a little shelf, too, for extras or other pieces of jewelry. I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this, but I was pretty pleased that I thought to put it together.

Wednesday Wedding: The Dessert Bar

Posted on: Wednesday, January 25, 2012

One of my friends/bridesmaids had a really great idea. Family and wedding party people get together before the wedding to bake and create all sorts of tasty treats for a dessert bar at the reception. That way there will be lots of personalized treats for guests to eat, and it provides a little bonding time before the big day. Also, it saves on the cost of a wedding cake, because you can get your usual sized cake (for me- 3 tier) to feed however many guests and for appearances, and not have to worry about buying extra sheet cakes to be cut up backstage. It also provides variety for guests that may not like your choice in cake flavor, or those that just aren't too fond of cake in the first place. Of course you'd have to work out some sort of schedule for the ovens and organize counter space a bit, and likely have a spare fridge for storage.  I'm not sure what all we will be making, but as always, Pinterest has given me some fun and delicious-looking dessert ideas.

rice krispie cupcake. I would be totally ok if these exact ones, dinosaurs and all, were at the wedding
blueberry tart
orangettes
fruit pizza
beer cupcakes
pie
cake pops
raspberries with chocolate chips
peanut butter banana nilla wafers
mini pies
brownies
funfetti
fruit salad/salsa with cinnamon chips
and of course, carrot cake for husband

I also think decorating the dessert table will be really fun. There will be little signs, saying what each dessert is, pretty cake stands and dessert trays, maybe some flowers...

What are some of your favorite tasty treats?

I've Been Reblogged

Posted on: Thursday, January 5, 2012

So, this thing happened around Christmas, where I made this simple scarf organizer, and posted it to Pinterest to share the idea (which I found in the first place on Pinterest), and for the next week or so my iphone wouldn't stop sending me notifications about people repinning, liking and commenting. And my blog page views shot up to over 2,000. Whoa. Husband and I joked (and still do) about how I had become an internet sensation (ha ha).

Even though we're coming back to reality from this brief internet stardom (I made it to the popular page, that's something?), I think it is pretty cool that some other blogs have linked to my site and reposted the scarf project. You can find a little mention of it at:

and

I also gained some new followers in the process. Welcome and thanks for reading!

Pinterest Project: Scarf Organization

Posted on: Saturday, December 24, 2011

The first thing I knew I wanted to "make" for the house was this simple scarf organizer I found on Pinterest. I am such a scarf lady, so this was much needed (my scarves were previously stored in a bag). Kyle thought it wouldn't work because they would just slide to one end, but I have proven him wrong.

I switched it over to a sturdy wooden hanger to avoid bending the plastic one too much. I'll be sure to share any other Pinspirational projects I take on around the house. The next one up might be this, making an ornament from the tree when it is time for it to go.

Pinterest Makes Me Want Things

And also to make things. Sometimes for children I don't have. Or a husband that is far far away. And holidays that are not in season.
