This Weekend...

Posted on: Monday, August 19, 2013

This was my second-to-last free weekend before school starts! I'm  ready for school I guess. Summer has flown and really been quite good. I'll have to do a recap post this coming week. Here's a look at my weekend! Saturday I started off with a morning jog around the neighborhood with Luna, and then I drove to Waco to pick up some fresh produce and enjoy the atmosphere of the Downtown Waco Farmers Market with my friend Meghan. After we picked up some things, we went down to the river so she could photograph a bunch of her crocheted baby hats (so cute). The weather on Saturday was just about perfect; it was pleasantly cool in the shade. We had lunch at the second (or, other) Cafe Cappuccino location, and I headed back home.
^^I brought the front two home with me^^
^^I love their coconut tea, and those cookies look delicious.^^
^^trying my first canary melon^^
^^view of the new Baylor stadium in the works^^
 ^^chocolate chip pecan pancake^^

After play time in the backyard with Luna and packaging up a box of goodies to send Kyle, I went to Harker Heights to meet my friend Olivia to see Elysium. I went to Old Navy before the movie, and unfortunatly found my car not in the same condition that I left it in. Yeah. This is the bumper that was just completely replaced in June (after a news van ran into a car that ran into me in May). Yep. Yes. My luck, ladies and gentlemen. I checked with the store and they don't have cameras in the parking lot. The damage doesn't seem too bad; maybe they can just bend it back into place? Anyway, at the theater the two youths sitting behind me decided I was in the way of their feet being on my seat, and put them up anyway, also there was at least one toddler in the theater, again depleting my faith in humanity (I changed seats). But, I talked to insurance, got some jeans on sale, and worked out my aggression at the park with Luna and Jay Z.
^^the current damage // damage from May^^

Sunday was spent crossing off tasks on my to do list and relaxing. With more dog walks, and playing outside, of course; I actually had all three animals out in the backyard together for a bit. :) I ended with watching Dexter and drinking wine, which, I have to say, go extremely well together.

I'm taking a bit of a break from Instagram/Twitter/Etc and constant documentation for a bit (the next week or so). I'm not saying I'll do a cold turkey complete shut down, but I plan on not paying much attention to my phone and social media, aside from using Facebook to chat with my husband, and checking my blogroll. Hopefully I'll catch up on some blogging myself in the meantime! Have a great week, all!

Sunday Social: Reintroduction

Posted on: Sunday, January 13, 2013

I haven't blogged in some days, though I do have some posts planned, so I thought I'd join this linkup today!

What is the name of your blog? How long have you been blogging?
My blog is called From the Desk, because after I got married my friends gave me custom notepads that said "From the desk of Mrs. Sarah McPherson" on the top; it was the first time I saw my new name in use. I have been blogging since April 2011; I was inspired to start after my husband had a blog for a few months!

Why do you blog?
I like to take pictures and I like to share about my life (though I don't claim it is super exciting or anything; follow on your own accord). I am very secluded and far from any good friends, so blogging helps to share goings-on with friends and family, and gives mean outlet to write whatever I want.

What is the first blog you ever followed?
It was a while after I started blogging that I was made aware of the whole blogging world, actually. I think my sister introduced me to Cupcakes and Cashmere as I was planning a wedding and so was Emily (among other things).

What is your favorite blog post you wrote in 2012?
Umm. I didn't have anything that jumped out without me having to go through and remember what all I wrote (actually my favorite posts were from when Kyle got back from deployment and we had our first Christmas together, but I always seem to forget that was December 2011, no longer last year). I guess I'll say: What I Learned From Deployment. As it's looking like we will be gearing up for another one this summer. Oy.

What are your blogging goals for 2013?
Uh. I don't really have any? I have a vague idea to write a post each week about something social work related, even if it's just an excerpt from a class reading or a rambling post on my thoughts about the state of mental health care. I guess that's as close to a "goal" as I have for this thing.

Top 3 Favorite blogs to follow?
Rebekka Seale (formerly, Dear Friend)

My husband (Seek Arete)- he doesn't post often, but it's cute when he does!

Studio DIY- I went to undergrad with Kelly's boyfriend, and she has a wonderfully crafty site!

Photo Preview

Posted on: Friday, June 29, 2012

Yesterday our wonderful photographer Jana posted a preview of our wedding photos! I didn't get much accomplished for several hours after that. I can't wait to see the rest! I've been thinking of how I should go about blogging about the wedding. I've seen some people take an alphabetical approach- A, talk about accessories, B talk about bridesmaids, etc. Whether I do it like that or not, I wrote out an alphabetical list of possible topics to cover (which was helpful for organizing and not forgetting things to write about), and if I do it that way, some posts would certainly be busier than others. For example, under B I have: bagpipes, beer, bridesmaids, bustle (aka the "buzzle" from hell), babies (there was A LOT of talk of babies considering there were none present or in the works. our future babies are in high demand), C: caricature, ceremony, cake, cocktail hour, colors, and for O all I came up with so far is open bar. :)

Have a great weekend! I'm excited to have my husband back after a hectic Army week. And my friends Nathalie and Claire, my exchange friends from Germany and Aussieland respectively, will be staying with us from the 1st through the 4th; our first house guests! And they'll be here for Canada Day and Independence Day!

Today I want to introduce you to two of my favorite bloggers around, Joelle of Something Charming and Elizabeth at Love is the Adventure. Be sure to pay them both a visit!

Meet Joelle!

Tell us about you and your blog!
Something Charming is my little corner of the internet where I share the things I find lovely in life. I'm a wedding planner, so Wednesdays are always dedicated to weddings, but I also love to post about style, design, writing, and my life.
If you had to have something tattooed on your body, what would it be?
My grandparents each spoke a different language growing up (English, Swedish, Tagalog, and Spanish), so I would get something tattooed in each of their native languages. It's a thought I've had for a while now, but I am too afraid of pain to actually go through with it!

Meet Elizabeth!
Tell us about you and your blog!
Hi, I'm Elizabeth and I blog over at Love is the Adventure. Kyle and I got married when we were really young and this blog started as a way of exploring God's hand in our marriage as we've gone through some really challenging stuff like moving far away from our families, surviving college and graduate school, and Kyle being diagnosed with PTSD. I'm a big believer that romance is in the little everyday things and that you don't have to have a lot of money or live somewhere exotic to have an adventurer's heart. So my challenge to myself is to try something new any time I have the chance. I blog about love and relationships, apartment living, grad school, road trips, books, and thrifting...and other stuff, too. Thanks so much, Sarah, for having me!

If you had to have something tattooed on your body, what would it be?
If I had to have something tattooed on my body...I've had a couple tattoo ideas for awhile but I sort of want to keep them a secret until I make up my mind! I do love tattoos of poetry...Kyle has an amazing tattoo of the constellation Orion in honor of his brother Orion who passed away.

What is on your summer reading list?
My summer reading list: I'm reading for my candidacy exams this summer so I have literally about 200 books on that reading list but if I can somehow squeeze in some fun ones...Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green.

Blog Birthday

Posted on: Tuesday, April 10, 2012

I just realized it was sometime in April last year that I started this blog! Looking back, my first post was on April 7, 2011. So, happy belated birthday, blog! It's been swell.

Thanks for reading!

I've Been Reblogged

Posted on: Thursday, January 5, 2012

So, this thing happened around Christmas, where I made this simple scarf organizer, and posted it to Pinterest to share the idea (which I found in the first place on Pinterest), and for the next week or so my iphone wouldn't stop sending me notifications about people repinning, liking and commenting. And my blog page views shot up to over 2,000. Whoa. Husband and I joked (and still do) about how I had become an internet sensation (ha ha).

Even though we're coming back to reality from this brief internet stardom (I made it to the popular page, that's something?), I think it is pretty cool that some other blogs have linked to my site and reposted the scarf project. You can find a little mention of it at:

and

I also gained some new followers in the process. Welcome and thanks for reading!
