New Year Camping

Posted on: Wednesday, January 1, 2014

Since Kyle had New Year's eve and New Year's day off, we decided to go on a little camping trip overnight. We went to Mother Neff State Park, the oldest state park in Texas apparently. We knew it would be cold but Kyle built a nice fire that we kept going for a while. Luna was pretty confused at first, but also excited and very vigilant. We let her run off into the woods a few times once we knew she would come back. She spent a lot of time on the lookout, it almost seemed like she was guarding our campsite. We all slept in the tent (well I didn't do much sleeping) and got up with the sun and ate Dinosaur egg oatmeal and hot chocolate. I wish we could have been celebrating with friends and my siblings in Boston, but this low key form of celebration suits us, and we got home in time to watch the Winter Classic and Baylor game (after giving Luna a bath, of course). :)

^^too cute, right?^^

^^L just sitting and watching and waiting^^

Happy New Year, friends!

Countdown

Just a cute photo of miss Loons, to accompany me telling you that I have three weeks of school left- our last day is December 9! For this semester...but next semester, my final semester, is pretty much full time at internship with just a couple classes to accompany that, so really, this is my last full-on school semester. At least that's what we tell ourselves to make it through... :)

I'm definitely, very much looking forward to this winter break.

Meet Luna!
I will share more about her later, but I wanted to let you know that indeed, we have adopted a pup! She is about one year old, just under 50 pounds, and a lab/boxer mix (though she is small for both those breeds). I got her on the 31st at the Fort Hood Stray Animal Shelter. She came with the name Luna and I didn't see any reason to change it. Adoption was kind of a risk because you often don't know exactly what you're going to get, but I somehow lucked out and got the most well-behaved dog ever, plus she and the cats have been doing fine together (a big relief!). She knows to sit, stay, lay down, no, come, fetch, shake, up, and go to her kennel. She has not once barked even with all the neighborhood dogs barking at her, housebroken, she moves off the path when other people are walking, walks fine on a leash, loves the backyard and playing fetch, and she's super cute. She is a little nervous around new things and new people, but she's kind of the best.
