Thanksgiving Break Snapshots

Posted on: Sunday, December 1, 2013

It has been a pretty busy week. Kyle returned from Afghanistan last Sunday evening, his mother was in town for a few days, I had class and everything still going on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday my mom and little brother arrived in Austin. We cooked up a Thanksgiving meal, somehow, all in our little kitchen (we're used to mom's two ovens and two fridges and ample counter space for preparation). I baked my first pie, and it was pretty successful. We did a little black Friday shopping (at like, 11 am) and just hung out until they flew back out on Saturday morning. I've been working on homework and such this weekend. One more week of class to go (our last day is Monday, December 9th). I feel like I have many projects to complete in that time, but it's really not too bad. Anyway, it was a nice and mostly relaxing holiday!

Countdown

Posted on: Sunday, November 17, 2013

Just a cute photo of miss Loons, to accompany me telling you that I have three weeks of school left- our last day is December 9! For this semester...but next semester, my final semester, is pretty much full time at internship with just a couple classes to accompany that, so really, this is my last full-on school semester. At least that's what we tell ourselves to make it through... :)

I'm definitely, very much looking forward to this winter break.

Autumn

Posted on: Thursday, November 7, 2013

It took Texas a little while longer than the rest of the country, but guys, autumn has arrived, settled in, and even has its own toothbrush by the sink. I love it. Cold evenings, nights and mornings, with crisp days. Tea and/or coffee every other day. Jackets and scarves and tights and boots. Blankets and cuddles. Fall is all good things.

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”  George Eliot

Fall Carrot Cupcakes

Posted on: Monday, November 4, 2013

This weekend felt all kinds of out of sorts, but at least I made some pretty nice cupcakes!

I made the cake-version of these for Valentine's Day and Kyle's birthday.

Keep on, Fall

Posted on: Saturday, November 2, 2013

I love the Christmas holiday season and I love winter, but around this time of year when I feel fall slipping away the day after Halloween, I get a little resentful and conflicted. Why the rush? Especially in Texas, it's still just starting to feel like fall, and I don't think I can stretch my imagination enough to believe it's time for snowflakes and candy canes. And this year, I haven't even carved a pumpkin yet or roasted the seeds, so that's going to have to happen. Anyway, just enjoying fall while it's here. Winter will come in due time.
