Sunday Social: In My Bag

Posted on: Sunday, July 22, 2012

It's my birthday, and I've been half doing birthday things (movies, out for breakfast), and half taking care of the possibly abandoned and definitely neglected dogs next door, with a side of headache and stress, so it's has been quite the day. I'll post more about the pups and birthday later, but I found this Sunday Social linkup from Meghan, and it's really just what I need today. A carefree post about purses! :)

Favorite handbag you've ever owned:
Hmm, I'm not sure! I really like the one I was using before my current one. I like bigger bags that fit over the shoulder (I don't understand carrying bags in your hand or around your forearm. not comfortable and I like having my hands free.). I also really grew to like the one from H&M that I got and used while in Finland (I didn't have room to bring it back with me).

Dream handbag you lust over:
The one I got today for my birthday! I've been wanting it for months, for the start of grad school in August. It's the Kelly Moore Libby bag. (thanks husband!)

Daily essentials in your purse or work bag
iphone. wallet. chapstick. pen. notepad/paper. keys. tissues.

What's in your purse(with pictures):
Today:
1. bag from spotted moth
2. Keys (yep that's a lego man keychain that has light up feet!)
3. wallet from urban outfitters
4. glasses
5. Marimekko notebook
6. tissues (just noticed they match my planner)
7. Kindle fire
9. bag with: a couple chapsticks, lip gloss, lotion, medicine, bobby pins, hair tie, hand sanitizer, tide pen, mint strips
10. iphone
also not pictured: pens!

For grad school: I haven't started yet, so this is really planning ahead; I'll probably do another post once school gets started!
1. notbooks, folders, papers, etc
2. bag with: a couple chapsticks, lip gloss, lotion, medicine, bobby pins, hair tie, hand sanitizer, tide pen, mint strips
3. keys
5. Kindle Fire
6. Marimekko notepad and post-its
7. lots and lots of pens
8. wallet
9. water bottle
10. more matching tissues
11. iphone
12. glasses
also probably: a snack or lunch box, more school supplies, 5 hour energy

One reason I love this bag is because of the movable organization on the inside. No more fumbling around looking for everything!

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Saturday Cats Stray Edition

Posted on: Saturday, July 21, 2012

Thursday evening I was out back with D & H and I noticed a little kitty just outside our fence, sniffing around. Kyle and I have seen cats that we suspect are strays about the neighborhood, and judging by how thin this little lady was, I guessed it was one of them. It came to me as I called for it, so I went inside and grabbed a can of food. When I came back out I couldn't see her, but found her again wandering in the neighbors yard. She came to me again when I called and I held out the can of food through the fence. She followed me as I went to our side yard and set the can down; I also brought out a bowl of water. Kitty seemed friendly but I didn't touch it or let it in our backyard with the cats. I watched her eat the whole can of food right then. I imagine you're not supposed to feed strays, but I had to. After eating kitty wanted to come in the yard and was rubbing against the fence where I stood. I went in and got a bowl of dry food to leave out and she was gone when I got back, but the food was empty in the morning (save a few ants). Sigh. Also the neighbor dogs got loose two different times Kyle and I wrangled them back into their yard. Are we the only ones taking care of their animals on this street?! A couple weeks ago another dog got out and was running around our yard, barking at us, stepping on broken glass in the back alley. It makes me mad.

Thursday Thoughts (12)

Posted on: Thursday, July 19, 2012

{1} Kitty pictures. They took turns at this window yesterday.

{2} I finally get my husband back! Tonight is his last night shift (for this week) after a marathon of night shifts, so he'll come home after PT and probably sleep until dinner time, and then we should have the whole weekend together.

{3} I got my kindle fire! Well this is a birthday gift from my family; I opened it early because I thought in the box were actual books I ordered for school, but then there was the kindle and I thought why stop now (/I was sad and home alone)! The free books seem to be either classics or trashy romance novels, so I downloaded some of the classics and only bought one book so far (Stiff by Mary Roach, about cadavers! my type of book, considering I've worked with cadavers myself). I also downloaded the Bible, and spent the evening reading between the two. The book about dead bodies makes a whoooole lot more sense to me, but I find if I approach the Bible like I approach ancient Greek mythology (which I love), it makes the story more bearable and I am less critical. But still critical, because what in the world? I like that on the Kindle Fire I can highlight parts of the book and write notes just like I would do on paper, so I can ask questions later. Anyway, I wasn't sure for a long time if I wanted a Kindle, but I love it and I think it will be great for grad school (if not for textbook use, than simply to have quick, easy and light access to lots of books should I need/want them).
also I accidentally borrowed Harry Potter. but it's Harry Potter, so that's OK with me.

{4} I recently discovered these wife swap shows. They are ridiculous.

{5} I'm all ready for my cheesecake baking adventure tomorrow! I'd never heard of a springform pan, but I got one of those too.

{6} My nails are currently Christmas colors. I wasn't
going for the seasonally misguided festive look, but I wanted green toes and then wanted red nails, so it happened.

Wedding Caricatures

Posted on: Wednesday, July 18, 2012

I don't remember where exactly the idea came from, but hiring a caricature artist was one of the things I settled on pretty early into planning. I did a Google search to find artists in the area, and hired a local artist through The Nose. I didn't really advertise to the guests that we would have a caricature artist, so it was one of the pleasant surprises of the evening. Our artist, the talented Angie Jordan, was set up during cocktail hour down in the basement of the farm (where cocktail hour happened), and moved upstairs to a nook up above the bar and DJ area at the reception. She was wonderful and captured people's quirks and personalities, and I loved seeing all the guests' caricatures through the night. They definitely provided many laughs, and I love that it was something the guests could bring home with them to remember the day (including ours!). Here are a few that folks posted on facebook!

 Nick and Teresa
Abigail (she likes to talk hahaha) and Christy
Alyssa and Chris, Anne and Sean
 Nathalie and Claire
Dad and my sister Erica (bottle in hand, sassy snap)
my brother John and cousin Edin
 Aunt Jenny and Mom
Matt with Ashley, Titus (and Lahiru)
cousins Sheridyn and Vienna

And ours!

Aren't they awesome? I guess it helps if you know the people, but oh well!

Ten on Tuesday

Posted on: Tuesday, July 17, 2012

1. I feel so bad for my husband. He goes to work at 2pm, comes home around 8:30 the next morning after the night guard shift and PT, sleeps from 9am to 1pm, then gets up and does it again, for a week straight. It's no fun. I'm hoping he'll have the weekend off, or at least a day. Four hours of sleep tops is not good for the Army. From the sounds of it they don't have much to do either, and he'll report to me how many crickets he killed on guard (600 lats night). I wish they were at least using the time to train our soldiers so they are ready for deployments. But let's not get me started on all the things wrong with the US military. I plan on making Kyle a cheesecake at the end of the week (never made one before).

2. Still in love with my planner. It took me not as long as I expected to get over my nervousness about actually writing in it and using it, haha.
yes I need my planner with me at all times thank you

3. I'm getting ready for school! Doing some supply shopping, figuring out student loans for the first time, more Baylor paperwork, clearing the clutter from my desk, buying books. I'm excited but also nervous. I'm not quite sure what to expect.

4. Turning 24 on Sunday. Is 24 noteworthy for any reason?

5. I thought Dexter season 6 was really great. It got back to the Dexter of early seasons that I love so much, and the story was great and captivating throughout. I'm looking forward to 7 and 8 and seeing how they end the show.

6. I could use a good girls night, but all my girls are states and states away.

7. My German friend posted this photo from the wedding, of the table toasting with their cake pops! Love it! My mom's friend made the most amazing cake pops and we put one for everyone at each table; hopefully there will be a detailed photo to come!

8. My tattoo is all peeled and still there!

9. What a perfect and pretty summer treat! raspberry sorbet in lemon bowls

10. This is still happening soon! :)
