Thursday Thoughts (3)

{one} Looking for a replacement for Picnik, closing on the 19th? I know I was. Enter PicMonkey. Created by some of the same people, it has many of the same features and runs similarly to Picnik. No collage feature yet, but it is coming soon (along with other features)!
{two} Wedding things have arrived! My earrings and dress and hairpin. My dress is presently in a a dress bag in a box in Kyle's closet, as that was the only closet with room for it out of cat reach. I doubt he is curious enough about what it looks like to try and sneak a peek, and I would certainly notice were he to try. :)
{three} How do you feel about beets? I love beets. It is because of Finland. Beets + potatoes = the taste of Finland. Well, one of the tastes of Finland (in my Finnish experience), but certainly one that can most easily be recreated back here in the States.
{five} I am really trying to drink more water. I think I "really try to drink more water" several times through the year. Eight glasses a day, right? I just don't get thirsty much and don't drink if I'm not thirsty.
{six} I got my swap gifts sent out (to Meghan and Caty) on Monday! But apparently nail polish is a hazard and I had to take that out. So, when they're asking what's in your package, forget to mention certain items. Or just get the guy that let Kyle send a bunch of booze out at Christmas. That works too. And then, we pulled out of our parking spot, and the guy in the car next to us pulled out before we could head forward and out, and he didn't see us and bumped into the front of our car. No damage, but really guy? He must not have looked at all because we were right behind him/next to him.
{seven} My sister got an ipod touch for her birthday earlier this month, which means... we can text! After graduating from Georgetown, she moved to Doha, Qatar to work at Georgetown's campus there for two years, so texting hasn't happened for a while. Exciting!
{eight} Latest addition to my Pinterest "I want" board. My board is not called that but that's what it pretty much is.
{nine} I made this for dinner last night. And, it was delicious. Kyle was a huge huge, fan as I knew he would be. Sweet and spicy and bacon. Yum. Thanks again, Pioneer Woman!
{ten} There seems to be a curse that involves the Pens, Kyle and I watching their games, and Texas. Last night was the first playoff game, against the Flyers, and they were up 2-0 when we realized we got the channel and turned it on. The first game we watched a few weeks ago, we started watching the game the same way. The second game, they weren't 2 up yet, but were well on their way to winning. All three times, the Flyers swooped in to beat them. So, we are pretty sure we are not meant to watch the Pens down here. It is sad.
{eleven} Two very different upcoming movies I want to see. Well, I want to see the first, and Kyle wants to see the second because it is a Joss Whedon film. But, I like a good scary movie, so I'm up for it.
Wednesday Wedding: Silver and Gold
Posted on: Wednesday, April 11, 2012
How many of you are singing (humming something that vaguely sounds like) that silver and gold song from the old Rudolph Christmas movie? Just me? Because it's April, not December? Oh, ok.
Anyway, I'm definitely on a silver and gold kick for our wedding, since I've been working more on the little details and accessories. I wrote a bit about how our wedding color palette developed here. I especially like mixing metals, using both gold and silver in the same visual plane. They can be glittery and shiny, or subtle and muted; I plan on working them in both ways. With our wedding, at an old farm, it will add a touch of glam, shine, and modernity to our rustic, natural setting. The colors also transition well from day to night; they will look great in the (hopefully) sun shine for the late afternoon ceremony, and stand out when the night lights hit them.
My ivory dress has some touches of silver (if I recall; I haven't seen it since October), and my accessories are gold-based. Kyle found these awesome regimental ties (8) for he and his groomsmen- gold, with black and silver stripes, and they will be wearing grey or black suits/tuxes. The ladies all picked different dresses in the sangria color, and they will wear any kind of silver or gold shoe.
Linking up with Joelle at Something Charming!

A little video of the kittens playing with a Shiner box. They are pretty funny.
Look at this freeze frame. haha.
April Begins
And a not-really-Easter Easter quote: "I’m sure Egg is a very nice person. I just don’t want you spending all your money getting her all glittered up for Easter." - Arrested Development
......
The start of April looks like this.
Miss Darwin. I've been calling her ladybug lately.
I really like this purple shirt (it has pockets). and navy skirt (it also has pockets).
The day of the tornadoes around Dallas; it got a little stormy here, and it was very pink in the evening.
Mr. Huxley
Mango popsicle. Kyle and I are in love. with them.
Kittens were being nice and cuddly, then fighting.
Hux and I were snail watching. Invigorating. Texas has a lot of snails.
Tangelos yumm.
pearls and polka dots
I have a thing for polka dots.
Chipotle! And Thursday night NBC.
cat in a box.
Wild Blue is good.

This Guy and Gal

It's been a while since I did just a Saturday Cats.
First he plops down in the middle of my desk while I'm working on things, then he attacks my belt. He loves me.
March Photo a Day, 21-31
Posted on: Friday, April 6, 2012
21. Delicious. My first attempt at chicken parm. I wasn't the biggest fan on the chicken, but I liked the sauce (with wine)!
22. Kitchen Sink. Empty bottle of wine.
yeah, I missed the 23rd (moon).
24. Animal. Toad pot at the Thai restaurant.
25. Breakfast. Oatmeal!
26. Key
27. Your name. My Pitt diploma!
28. Trash. Pretty full trash can by my desk.
29. Feet. Vibrams! Too bad I had to order a different size and they are back-ordered.
30. Toy. Kitten toy.
31. Where you Relax. This leather couch from my parents house is pretty relaxing. Except for when we first moved down here and it had acquired fleas in the process. Thanks, movers.
So, that was March! On to April! I like the prompts for this month! Are you participating?
Update: I've missed the last couple days of April. Sigh.

Thursday Thoughts (2)
Posted on: Thursday, April 5, 2012
{first} Darwin did this the other day. Climbed the screen door and hopped up on top of the door. A first.
{second} Things about Texas: there are a lot of snails here. I can't remember ever seeing a snail since I left CA in 2001. It also storms a lot here. Lots of bugs. I'm a fan of central time, though. I should probably plant something in that pot, instead of it just being a place where beetles go to die (so it seems).
{third} Change of plans with my dress. It is being shipped down here, as it makes more sense for me to find someone to do fittings/alterations here instead of me flying back and forth to PA 2 or 3 times in the next two months. The downside is that I now have to find a place to do it here, and I wont have my mom and ladies here with me to ooh and aah and reassure me. I also really liked my dress lady. But, I still can't wait to see it! It's a Casablanca dress (Warning!- loud, annoying music on the website), but we changed the top part, so I haven't ever seen it as it is.
{fourth} With the release of Titanic 3D (3+ hours of 3D? no thank you), I feel the need to tell you that in 4th grade I brought my keyboard to school and went on a mini-tour around to classes, playing My Heart Will Go On. My friends got in a fight about who would get to sing along. I did some oddly showy things for a shy girl.
{fifth} I've been really wanting to go to Hawaii lately. It doesn't make any sense, but there it is. I went for two weeks with my family in '98 I believe it was. It is not in my nature to want to go somewhere warm and beachy, but I'm longing to go. I doubt traveling anywhere will be an option in the Army though. Maybe Army will station him in Hawaii after Texas (if he reenlists). We definitely do not want to stay in Texas longer than we have to. But anyway. Hawaii. I want to go to there.
{sixth} There have been a number of bomb threats at various buildings at Pitt over the last few weeks. Seven just yesterday. And they're targeting multiple buildings at the same time now (four buildings at once, today so far). There is a reward of $50,000 for information about who is doing it. I'm not even there and it's annoying me. It must be very disruptive.
{eighth} Rereading The Hunger Games is nice. There's no rush. More time to think. And, I still think a Hunger Games theme/inspired wedding is a dumb, dumb idea. A bow-and-arrow and a braid does not a theme make. Also, remember all the death, torture, and psychological trauma? I know there is a love story in there, but it is a severely tortured one, and not one I would want to base my wedding around. I am getting a huge kick out of all the gifs and images floating around the internet, however. For example.
{ninth} I have such a thing for polka dots lately/gradually.
{tenth} I just ordered this vintage golden, pearl and rhinestone hair pin from Acute Designs on Etsy. I'm not entirely sure what my hair and hair accessory situation will be for the wedding, but this could be the perfect thing to incorporate somehow, especially to bring in a little gold. :)

{seventh} Kyle has a four day weekend! Hooray! No plans as of yet. I think I'll make banana bread. And buy a plant for that pot out front.
